Lights Out
Introduction
I worked in a team of seven ISU students on Lights Out for our Senior Design Project. The full project consisted of building a game engine that supports non-Euclidean rendering, designing a game for the engine, prototyping the game concept in Unity, and playtesting the prototype. We split into two sub-teams: one for engine development and one for concept/prototype development. The video above is a brief demo of the game prototype built in Unity. If you would like to give it a try on itch.io, hit play it yourself!
My Role
My role in this project was game development team lead and head Unity developer. I managed a team of four developers (including myself) through a process of brainstorming, conceptualizing, iterating on the game concept, developing the prototype, and playtesting. On a more granular level, my responsibilities included creating an agenda for and running weekly meetings, assigning tasks based on priority level, providing Unity learning resources for the other developers, and coordinating with the engine sub-team. I also developed core systems such as NPC behavior and interaction, placeable item functionality, farming, and shops.
